History

It takes quite an extraordinary man to make a difference in such traditional and history intensive industry as acoustics and loudspeaker design.

Gradient’s founder and Design Director Jorma Salmi happens to be such a man. In 1984 his early prototypes of directivity and dipole midrange changed the way people considered loudspeakers and in some extent, listened the music. Salmi simply refused to accept the fact, that listening room was drastically affecting the sound reproduction of even the best speakers available. That stubbornness resulted some innovations, that are still Gradient’s soul. Designs that makes Gradient distinctive and unique.

To make his innovations commercially available and develop them even further, he resigned from famous telecommunication company and founded Gradient with his two enthusiastic HiFi friends.
